Birthing Services

Pregnancy Pregnancy is an exciting time for parents-to-be. You want to know as much as you can about your developing baby and how your actions will affect his health. Use this information to help you make informed decisions from conception through delivery.

Your Newborn Baby Sleeping, eating, crying, cooing—your new arrival will keep you busy. You'll soon figure out his or her patterns and preferences.

The Martin General Hospital team believes birth should be an empowering and memorable experience.  We provide one on one nursing care throughout the birthing process.  The birthing woman’s partner and labor support persons are encouraged to support the mother-to-be and share the birth experience in a way that helps strengthen family bonds.  It is our desire that the birthing family remember their child’s birth in the most positive way possible.

Each person deals with birth in her own way, for this reason, we provide special support for women desiring a birth without medication.  We provide several types of childbirth pain relief for those who desire it, including intrathecal analgesia, which is similar to an epidural in pain relief, but without some of the epidural’s more undesirable side effects.  Should a cesarean be necessary, our surgical staff provides safe and competent care for the mother and baby.

Newborn Care

A special nursery nurse attends all births.  After the baby is born, we provide one on one teaching to help the new parents learn parenting skills such as feeding, bathing and soothing the newborn.  Our experienced pediatric physicians are always on call to care for both sick and well newborns.  All infants have a hearing screen performed before discharge.  A security system ensures the safety of mother and baby.

Gynecological Services

Recovery from gynecological surgery is provided in quiet, private rooms, in an atmosphere that respects and understands the special needs of women. Martin General Hospital Women’s Center provides individualized caring services to women in all phases of their lives, in an atmosphere that supports the family as well. At Martin General, our patients aren’t just patients — they are valued friends and family from our community whom we are happy to serve.
