Coronavirus and what you can do to help with prevention.
To prepare for the potential spreading of the coronavirus, staff at Martin General Hospital have been educated on the outbreak that started in Wuhan, China. If you have recently traveled to China or been in contact with someone who recently traveled to China, and are developing concerning symptoms, we are here to help. Please call us (emergency room or clinic) before arriving as we are following specific guidelines issued by the CDC to handle patients who may have been exposed to this virus. The Emergency Room telephone number is 252-809-6133.
The CDC recommends the following if travelling to China:
- Avoid contact with sick people.
- Avoid animals (alive or dead), animal markets, and products that come from animals (such as uncooked meat).
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
If you have traveled to China in the last 14 days and feel sick with a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, the CDC recommends you should:
- Seek medical care right away. Before you go to a doctor’s office or emergency room, call ahead and tell them about your recent travel and your symptoms.
- Avoid contact with others.
- Not travel while sick.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
